Update on Yearbooks

We have filled a few yearbook gaps, thanks to a couple of very helpful alumni.  We are still looking for the following yearbooks, so if you know anyone who might have copies of these yearbooks, please send them our way.

Years we are still looking for:

Decatur High School: 1912-1921, 1982, 1996

Decatur Boys High: 1933-36, 1938, 1952 (We discovered something called “The Broadcaster” from 1937, maybe it replaced the Caveat Emptor that year. It is more like a magazine with a softcover.)

Decatur Girls High: 1946, 1949-51

Trinity High School: 1956-58, 60-62, 64-67

Herring Street School: all years

If you have a yearbook that you would allow us to borrow for digitization, please contact Heather Newman at 404-370-4420 x119 or by email hnewman AT csdecatur.net

New chair choice

New Chair possibly?

We’re thinking about replacing the libarary chairs, and maybe the tables, too. We want something light weight, durable, stackable. We like this one. Maybe with a laser cut of a bulldog on the back?

New computers in the library :)

We’ve added 9 new desktops to the library.  Yay!  New iMacsWe hope to add 2 more next year in order to have a class set of 25.  This will make the load on our 3 computer labs a little lighter.  It’s always a struggle to find computer time at certain times of the year: testing, midterms, end of the semester when many classes want to undertake research projects or computer heavy activities.

Join us on GoodReads

Let’s talk about books!  Join GoodReads and become my friend.  My profile on Goodreads contains lists of books that I’ve read, books I want to read and recommendations for those books.  It’s a great way for you to become a part of the reading community that we are building at DHS.  See you there soon!

New pathfinders

We’ve added new pathfinders to help students with multimedia projects.  Increasingly, we are creating projects that include music and images.  One of the problems that we run into is making sure that we always cite our sources and that we have permission to use those sources in our creation.  Especially, when these creations are posted to the world on the web.

We’ve created the following pathfinders:

Audio: Find sound clips and sound bites, royalty free music, and more.

Images: Royalty free images, clip art, and photography.

The following pathfinder should provide technical help when you need to type into a PDF document or when you need to use a YouTube movie in your presentation, but can’t access it through the internet filter.

Convert your files: PDF to Word, YouTube to .mov

The mantra of librarians & teachers everywhere: Always Cite your Sources!
